A's Beat Mariners, Clinch Home-Field In AL Wild-Card Game

Ramon Laureano hit a solo home run in the third inning and the Oakland Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Saturday night, clinching home-field advantage for the American League wild-card game.

The A's will host the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night. Tampa Bay lost 4-1 at Toronto earlier Saturday. Oakland has won three of its last four games and is 18-7 in September.

Twins Become First Club To Hit 300 Home Runs

The Minnesota Twins have become the first club in Major League history to hit 300 home runs in a season.

Jonathan Schoop hit the milestone home run off Jose Cisnero of the Detroit Tigers.

"It is great that I got to hit the 300th homer, but this record is about more than me," Schoop said. "We've got a lot of guys with a ton of homers, but so many other guys have hit big ones when we needed it."

Earlier this week the Twins clinched their first division title since 2010.

Twins Capture First AL Central Title Since 2010

The Minnesota Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1 on Wednesday night and clinched their first American League Central title since 2010.

The division title was officially clinched when the Cleveland Indians lost to the Chicago White Sox later in the evening.

The Twins will be in the playoffs for just the second time since 2010.

"It's wonderful to see people achieve their goals and their dreams and reach these types of points," Rocco Baldelli said. "This is a very big mark. It's something that we shoot for. You can't play beyond this until you get to this point, and knowing that we have an opportunity to play for a World Series is exactly where we want to be right now."

Nationals Clinch Wild Card Berth

The Washington Nationals clinched a Wild Card playoff berth with a win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.

The spot was clinched minutes before Washington's victory, when the Chicago Cubs lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Nationals started 19-31 and had the National League's third-worst record on May 24.

"I said this team is going to bounce back and turn it around," Davey Martinez said. "I thought we hit the bottom then, but this team -- we get everybody back, we get healthy, we're going to be OK. So let's just keep fighting, and here we are."

Dodgers Reach 100-Wins, Royals Become Fourth 100-Loss Team

The Los Angeles Dodgers gave Major League Baseball its third 100-win team while Kansas City became its fourth 100-loss club Sunday, matching big league records for success and futility.

The Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 7-4, joining the 102-win New York Yankees and Houston Astros as triple-digit victors. It's the third consecutive year three teams have reached the century mark. Before this run, there were only three 100-game winners in 1942, 1977, 1998, 2002 and 2003.

Cardinals Sweep Cubs To Clinch Playoff Spot

Paul Goldschmidt and the Cardinals celebrated the franchise's first postseason berth in four years with a champagne toast in the clubhouse.

Goldschmidt hit a tie-breaking double in the ninth inning and the Cardinals clinched a playoff spot by rallying past the Cubs 3-2 on Sunday for their first four-game sweep at Wrigley Field in almost a century.

"Just relentless on our guys' part," manager Mike Shildt said. "That's the way we play baseball. That's the way we compete."

Astros Clinch AL West Behind Springer, Verlander

George Springer, Justin Verlander and the Astros put a check mark in the September box.

"You can't ever take the first goal for granted," Verlander said. "I know everybody says we're going to win the World Series, but you can't do that without this first. So, step one complete. Now we have the divisional round coming up and we'll ... prepare for that and try to win 11 games."

Springer hit a career-high three homers, Verlander posted his MLB-leading 20th win and the Astros secured the division crown in grand fashion, routing the Angels 13-5.

Yankees Clinch AL East For First Time Since 2012

The New York Yankees bested the Los Angeles Angels 9-1 on Thursday night to clinch their first American League East title since 2012.

"We got a lot bigger fish to fry, but this is the first step along the way," Aaron Boone said. "Nothing has got in their way. Whatever has come adversity-wise, they faced it and powered right through it."

The Yankees notched their 100th win of the season despite placing 30 players on the injured list this year.

Boone is the first manager in Major League history to win 100 games in each of his first two seasons.

The Yankees will open the playoffs on Oct. 4.

The Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday night for their 100th victory of the season.

The win also allowed the Astros to clinch a postseason berth. They can clinch the American League West title with a win over the Los Angeles Angels and an Oakland A's loss to the Rangers.

"If you like winning, 100 three years in a row is a lot," AJ Hinch said. "I love it for this team and this organization, and it’s a big accomplishment. It’s one step along the way for us in what we’re trying to accomplish this season. I don’t want that to be the high note by any means, but I want to take a moment and congratulate our team and get to the next time and see how many we can win."
